Security Sales Engineer

Security Sales Engineer is a key role in our Security Division that includes assisting the Security Sales team, serving as a point of contact for pre-sales engineering of electronic security, life safety, and technology-based solutions. In this role the Security Sales Engineer will make required site visits to evaluate project requirements and gather information to design and create a BOM and assist in proposal generation.

Essential Functions

  • Provide pre-sales support to the security & fire sales team including technical presentations, system design and assist with proposal development.
  • Assist the sales team with takeoffs and the completion of RFP/RFQ bids.
  • Provide pre-sales support to customers and communicate with clients’ technical team as needed.
  • Assist in the design of electronic security, life safety, and technology solutions to meet project objectives and customers’ requirements.
  • Conduct site surveys to evaluate building construction, network infrastructure, and existing systems and hardware which will be used for product selection, labor estimation and system design.
  • Uses past hands-on field experience and knowledge to ensure that the systems designed can be effectively installed to meet customers’ requirements.
  • Ability to communicate the advantages of selected solutions and differentiators to other potential systems proposed by other competitors.
  • Communicate with sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure proper functionality and deployment of systems to meet customer expectations.
  • Potentially assist in product setup, coordination and support of product demonstrations, industry trade shows.
  • Review sales quotes and confirm equipment lists are correct.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Works under the direction of the Director of Security Sales Engineering & Product Development

Qualifications

  • A passion for physical security and technology
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a broad range of industry systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion, public address, emergency communications, fire alarm and DAS systems.
  • Experience with installing, managing, programming, and troubleshooting access control systems, wireless locks, door hardware, video management systems, IP cameras, NVRs, and physical security system components.
  • Experience reading and responding to security bid specifications and construction drawings.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Practical understanding and comfort working in IP Network environments.
  • A post-secondary degree/diploma in electronics or equivalent college technical degree.
  • Experience designing and presenting technical solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; professional presentation skills; self-starter, cooperative attitude; team player.
  • High energy with a “sense of urgency” and a “take charge” attitude.
  • Excellent MS Office skills. and MS Visio skills.

Work Environment

This position operates in an office environment and may when necessary, include dust, noise, metal shavings, and other elements associated with being at a commercial job site.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, read, count, type and write to accurately complete all documentation. This job may also requires the use of electronic equipment, machines and hand tools necessary for access control systems, video surveillance, intrusion systems, and public address systems. May require climbing and standing on ladders as well as carrying boxes of equipment over 25 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position.

Travel

Office based position with travel to customer/prospect sites with the sales, engineering and/ or project management team as required for pre-sales assistance and project evaluation and turnover after project has been awarded.

Required Education and Experience

  • A post-secondary degree/diploma in electronics or equivalent college technical degree and/or equivalent combination of 5 or more years direct experience and education.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a sales engineer in a mid to large size security integrator (on-site assessment, audits, surveys, cost estimates)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electronic security industry with installation and maintenance of low voltage electronic systems including IP video surveillance systems, access control systems, intrusion systems, fire alarm systems and public address systems.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Individual must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)

  • Criminal Background Check, PA Child Welfare clearance and FBI fingerprinting clearance required
  • DMV check
  • Pre-employment drug screening
